Masjid Al-Haram Muazzin Sheikh Ibrahim Al Madani Passes Away at 51

Sheikh Ibrahim bin Adel Hamza Al-Madani, a muazzin at Makkah’s Grand Mosque, died on Monday at the age of 51. He was known for his Fajr adhan, takbeers and service from the mosque’s muazzins’ platform.

The Saudi Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque confirmed Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Madani’s death on September 21. Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, head of the Presidency for Religious Affairs, offered condolences to his family on behalf of the imams, muazzins and teachers of the two holy mosques.

Al-Madani was one of 24 principal muazzins at Masjid Al-Haram. Six muazzins rotate each day to deliver the calls to prayer for the five daily prayers and the first Fajr adhan. Al-Madani became known for his Fajr call and his recitation of takbeers.

Known for Fajr Adhan and Tabligh

Al-Madani also performed tabligh from the mosque’s muazzins’ platform. The duty involves relaying the imam’s takbeers so worshippers across the Grand Mosque can hear them.

Reports said his final call to prayer was the first Fajr adhan on Monday, only hours before his death. Footage of the call was shared after news of his passing.

Al-Madani was born in Madinah in 1976. Reports said he began calling the adhan at a local mosque at the age of 15. He was formally appointed as a muazzin at the Grand Mosque in 2017–18.

Following his death, social media users shared recordings and videos of his adhan and takbeers from Masjid Al-Haram. His earlier comments about his first adhan at the Grand Mosque also resurfaced. He recalled becoming emotional after seeing worshippers performing Tawaf while hearing his voice.
