Saudi Arabia Begins New Umrah Season 2026 with Strict Visa Rules and Rising Travel Costs

Mandatory hotel bookings, tighter visa checks, and higher Umrah package prices mark the start of the new season for pilgrims worldwide.

Makkah: Saudi Arabia has officially opened the new Umrah season, allowing pilgrims from across the globe to start applying for visas under updated entry regulations.

The season officially opens from 1 June when international pilgrims will be allowed entry into the Kingdom via Jeddah and Madinah airports.

New Strict Visa Rules for Pilgrims

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirmed that the existing rules will remain in force, while it will step up enforcing them to enhance the management of pilgrimage services.

Under the updated policy, applicants must now provide:

  • Confirmed hotel accommodation before visa approval
  • Verified return and departure flight tickets
  • Pre-arranged transport within Saudi Arabia

Violation of these requirements could lead to fines or legal action, such as denial of entry.

Crackdown on Rule Violations and New Company Registrations

Last year, multiple Umrah operators received penalties for contravening regulations, whereas companies that complied were allowed to run.

Meanwhile, the government has been accepting applications for new licensed Umrah companies to enhance the quality of services and compliance.

Rising Umrah Costs Concern Pilgrims

With the start of the new season, a sharp increase in travel expenses has been reported.

  • Umrah packages have risen from around Rs. 220,000 to Rs. 250,000–260,000
  • Airfare on some routes has reached up to Rs. 170,000

The price hike has raised concerns among Pakistani pilgrims, particularly those planning to travel after Hajj season.

Growing Demand Despite Higher Prices

Although the prices are higher, the demand for an Umrah tour is high. But, travel operators report that offering middle-class pilgrims a lower-cost trip is getting difficult.

With the added financial strain, many families are reassessing their travel plans.

Saudi Arabia Also Prepares Early Hajj 2027 Planning

At another development, Saudi authorities have recently released an early draft for the Hajj 2027, enabling countries and operators to prepare ahead.

The move is aimed at improving coordination, crowd management, and service efficiency for future pilgrimage seasons.
