At least 20 people killed and more than 300 injured in a powerful earthquake in Balochistan on Thursday morning.
Even after the quake, aftershocks felt in different areas. The first tremor felt at 3:20 a.m., after which frightened citizens came out of their homes, reciting the Kalima Tayyaba. Emergency and relief activities are underway in all the hospitals in the affected areas.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, most of the dead are children.
Earth quake affected Quetta, Sibi, Chaman, Ziarat, Harnai, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, and Zhob in Balochistan. The quake measured 5.9 magnitudes on the Richter scale.
There is a chance in increase of casualties. According to the seismological center, the epicenter was at a depth of 15 km near Harnai.
Most of the damage appears to be affecting Harnai district, officials said. Harnai, located east of the provincial capital Quetta, has a large number of coal mines.
Emergency has declared at the Civil Hospital Quetta. However, doctors and other paramedical staff have been called back on an emergency basis.
