The Edhi Foundation, Pakistan’s largest and most trusted welfare organization, has announced its plans to add three new aircraft to its air-ambulance service. These aircraft will include two from the United States and one from Russia. The new aircraft will join the existing fleet of two aircraft and one helicopter that provide relief and assistance during natural disasters and emergencies.
The head of the Edhi Foundation, Faisal Edhi, said that the new aircraft will acquired soon and will used to airlift the injured and stranded people to the nearest hospitals during any calamity. He also said that a new center for the foundation will establish in Punjab to cater to the needs of the people in that province.
The Edhi Foundation has been running its air-ambulance service since 2005 when it acquired its first aircraft from Germany. This service launched to provide timely and efficient medical aid to the victims of earthquakes, floods, landslides, and other disasters that often strike Pakistan. The service also helps in transporting organs for transplant and shifting patients who need specialized treatment.
