Eidul Fitr 2023: Government Declares 5-Day Public Holidays in Celebration of Eidul Fitr

According to reports, the federal government has declared a nationwide public holiday for five days on the occasion of Eidul Fitr. The holiday was announced on Thursday to mark the celebration of this important Islamic festival.

As per a notification issued by the Ministry of Interior, the holidays will commence on Friday, April 21, and will continue until Tuesday, April 25.

According to the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council (RHRC), it is highly probable that Eidul Fitr will observe throughout the country on Saturday, April 22 this year.

Khalid Ijaz Mufti, the Secretary-General of the council, announced that the committee’s gathering scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 20, to witness the appearance of the Shawwal moon.

In the event that the crescent is visible on Thursday evening, Eidul Fitr will celebrate on Friday, April 21. However, as per his statement, it seems improbable that the moon will sight on the same evening.

As per his statement, after the completion of 30 days of fasting in the holy month of Ramazan, it is highly probable that Eid will celebrate on April 22.

What happens if Eid Falls on Friday?

The council shared that the birth of the moon is expecting to take place on Thursday, April 20 at 9:13 am Pakistan time. In order to sight the moon on the evening of the 29th of Ramazan, it should have an age of over 19 hours at sunset. However, in all parts of Pakistan, the age of the moon at sunset will be less than 10 hours.

According to the news, in cities such as Peshawar, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Charsadda, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Quetta, and Jiwani, the time difference between sunset and moonset, which is typically over 40 minutes, will only be 21 minutes. In Lahore and Karachi, this difference will only be 20 minutes.

Eidul Fitr signifies the conclusion of the sacred month of Ramazan, a period in which Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise until sunset. This festival traditionally observed through congregational prayers, spending time with loved ones, and indulging in delicious meals.

The precise date of Eidul Fitr observes through the appearance of the crescent moon, which signifies the start of the Islamic month of Shawwal.
