Heavy Rains in Punjab Forecasted From 1 June

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urgent alert as heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecasted across various regions of Pakistan from June 1. The Meteorological Department has warned that these weather conditions will affect upper regions including Lahore, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and other parts of Punjab.

Heatwave in the Plains:
Despite the rains in upper regions, the plains of Punjab and Sindh will experience intense heat, with temperatures soaring up to six degrees above normal levels. Islamabad also expected to see a significant rise in temperature, with an increase of three to five degrees above the usual.

Rain and Thunderstorms in Upper Regions:
Rain, dust storms, and thunderstorms expected in regions such as Lahore, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Kasur, Okara, and Faisalabad from June 1. This shift in weather may provide relief from the heat but also raises concerns about severe weather events.

Flood and Landslide Warnings:
The NDMA has alerted the public and relevant authorities to the potential risks of flooding in rivers and landslides in hilly areas due to the heavy rains. Emergency response teams and machinery being prepared to tackle any arising emergencies.

Areas at Risk:
Regions likely to experience rain and thunderstorms include Lahore, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, and Sahiwal.

Precautions and Safety Measures:
The NDMA has advised the public to take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides. It is crucial to avoid taking shelter in weak infrastructure during the rain to prevent accidents and injuries. Additionally, strong winds and heavy rains could potentially damage crops, electricity poles, and buildings.
