Karachi Faces Unofficial LPG Price Hike Ahead of Ramadan

In a surprising turn of events, the sprawling metropolis of Karachi is grappling with an unannounced hike in Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices, creating concerns for residents just ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.

As the city gears up for the auspicious month, citizens are now contending not only with the anticipation of Ramadan but also the economic challenges brought about by a sudden Rs 20 per kilogram increase in LPG prices.

The LPG market, known for its complexities, has witnessed an unauthorized surge, with the LPG mafia unilaterally deciding to raise prices, disregarding official regulations. This move has prompted Chairman Irfan Khokhar of the LPG Distributors Association to call for swift action against the LPG mafia from the recently elected government.

Expressing his concerns, Khokhar highlights the irony that, while the official government relief package for Ramadan is yet to be initiated, the LPG mafia has taken the initiative to increase gas prices independently, putting an additional burden on the public.

The situation raises questions about the need for regulatory measures to curb such unilateral decisions by market players and underscores the urgency for government intervention to ensure stability in essential commodities during critical times. As Karachi navigates through these challenges, residents hope for prompt actions from the authorities to alleviate the economic strain on households during this significant period.
