Lahore Tuition Center Roof Collapse Kills 14 Children in Kahna, Rescue Operation Continues

A devastating Lahore tuition center roof collapse in the Kahna area claimed the lives of at least 14 children on Wednesday, while several others were injured after the building’s roof caved in during classes. Rescue teams continue to search the debris amid fears that more victims could be trapped.

The tragic incident occurred in Kahna, Lahore, where dozens of children were attending tuition classes on the ground floor of a residential building that was being used as a tuition center. According to rescue officials, around 33 children were trapped under the rubble when the roof suddenly collapsed.

Rescue Teams Continue Search for Survivors

Rescue officials in Punjab said the emergency call was received at 4.45 pm at which time rescue teams hurried to the scene and commenced a major rescue operation. The site scene is being cleared with care, and the rescue team is diligently working to remove debris while there was a concern that other children might be trapped under the collapsed building.

The majority of the victims were thought to be young students who were enrolled in their normal tuition courses at the time of the incident.

14 Children Confirmed Dead

Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir said the death toll of the building collapse in Lahore had reached 14 children. 19 children were transferred to Kahna hospital and 5 injured students are being treated, he said.

Police have yet to identify the killers, and the names of the dead have not been released, though attempts are being made to alert their relatives.

PM Shehbaz Sharif and CM Maryam Nawaz Express Grief

In the wake of the tragic loss of innocent lives, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his condolences to the families of the dead.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also voiced sadness about the event and asked for a detailed report from the concerned authorities. She directed that officials take immediate steps to provide the best medical care for those who were injured and asked for a comprehensive investigation of the collapse cause.

Construction Work Underway on Upper Floor

Lahore Police said that upper level of the building was under construction while students were conducting tuition classes on the ground floor. This may have played a role in the collapse, which will be investigated in great detail to determine the cause of the collapse.

The officials also confirmed that the building was not in a good condition and it had been used as a tuition centre even though it was unsafe.

Five Detained for Investigation

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said five people connected with the tuition centre have been arrested. The police had also detained the owner of the building and a man earlier to question.

The investigators are looking into negligence, illegal construction, or violations of building safety regulations to see if they contributed to the tragedy.

Government Orders Inquiry

The government’s immediate priority is to save those who remain trapped under the debris, said Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari. Rescue teams have been told to operate with utmost caution, she added.

The tuition center was being run in a building that wasn’t adequately maintained and was in violation of building safety requirements, Bukhari said.

The incident has been investigated and further action will be taken when an investigation is finished.
