Magnitude 4.4 Earthquake Jolts Islamabad & Rawalpindi: Cities on High Alert

In a startling wake-up call, seismic tremors rattled the serene atmosphere of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday morning. The Pakistan National Seismic Monitoring Centre swiftly reported that the Richter scale registered a magnitude 4.4 earthquake, sending shockwaves across the twin cities and their adjacent regions.

The seismic activity, experienced at approximately 5:30 AM, not limited to the twin cities alone. Adjoining areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir also felt the earth beneath their feet, heightening the sense of urgency in the early hours.

According to the monitoring center, the earthquake’s epicenter lay in the South-West of Kashmir, with a depth of around 16 km. While the earth shook, residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi emerged from their homes in fear, anticipating the worst. Fortunately, no loss of life or damage to property reported, offering a sigh of relief to the concerned residents.

This recent seismic event follows a similar occurrence on December 20, when multiple tremors from an earthquake felt in the twin cities around 9:50 PM. The region remains on high alert as Mother Nature continues to remind us of her unpredictable power.

As the twin cities grapple with these seismic reminders, authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and prepare for potential aftershocks. The seismic activity serves as a stark reminder of the importance of earthquake readiness and the need for ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure resilience in vulnerable regions.
