Major Fire Breaks Out at Garments Factory in Landhi Export Processing Zone 

A third-degree fire broke out at a garments factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone on Monday afternoon. It prompted an intensive emergency response and the deployment of fire tenders, rescue teams and water tankers. 

A massive fire engulfed a garments factory within the Landhi Export Processing Zone in Karachi and thick plumes of smoke covered the area. The chief fire officer classified the blaze as a third-degree fire due to its severe intensity 

Rescue 1122 teams, fire brigade vehicles, ambulances, rangers, and police personnel rushed to the site to manage the situation and secure the surrounding area. 

Because of the heavy smoke and scale of the fire, three people (including a woman) suffered from smoke inhalation and were temporarily trapped or affected. They were safely pulled out by rescue workers and rushed to Jinnah Hospital for urgent medical treatment. 

Authorities confirmed that all other workers were safely evacuated from the building. 

Water Corporation Measures 

As firefighting efforts continued for hours, the fire brigade sought urgent assistance from local municipal authorities. In response, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui declared an emergency at the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants. 

The water corporation promptly dispatched a fleet of water tankers to the factory site to maintain an uninterrupted water supply for the firefighting operations. The hydrants’ cell in-charge and supervisory personnel remained in constant contact with rescue teams to ensure continuous support until the flames are fully contained, a Water Corporation spokesperson said.
