Man Who Saved Dr Mahnoor Nisar to Receive Civil Award from CM Sarfraz Bugti

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has announced a civil award for Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, a Civil Hospital Quetta employee who risked his own life to help a female doctor during a shocking acid attack at the hospital.

The announcement comes after Dr Mahnoor Nisar was attacked with acid inside Civil Hospital Quetta on Saturday, sparking widespread condemnation and concern across Pakistan’s medical community.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, CM Sarfraz Bugti praised Abdul Razzaq Tarakai for his extraordinary courage and humanity, calling him a “precious asset to society.” The chief minister said Tarakai’s selfless actions reflected the highest values of public service and compassion.

“Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, who has shown exemplary courage, humanity and commitment to duty by immediately assisting Dr Mahnoor Nisar during the tragic acid attack incident, will receive a Civil Award,” Bugti said.

Tarakai reportedly suffered burns after he tried to protect the female doctor from the assailant. The chief minister then spoke to him on the phone, praising his courage and promising that the provincial government would bear all expenses for treatment and would provide advanced medical care if needed.

Dr Mahnoor Nisar first treated at a private hospital in Quetta, before being transfer to Karachi for specialist treatment. She is now in “stable” condition following assessments by reconstructive surgeons and eye specialists at the hospital, hospital sources said.

The victim had burns to her face, abdomen, legs and right hand confirmed by doctors. She reportedly burned on about 13 percent of her body. Her eyes have damaged by the acid but doctors have said she still has normal vision and is out of danger.

Police officials confirmed that later the man involved in the acid attack killed during a clash.

Healthcare providers and civil society have responded strongly to the attack, calling for greater security at health facilities and more concerted efforts to curb violence against healthcare workers.

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti reiterated the Balochistan government’s commitment to supporting individuals who put themselves at risk to save others and serve humanity.

The Quetta acid attack has once again highlighted the importance of protecting healthcare workers and recognizing the courage of those who step forward in times of crisis.
