Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a significant increase in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) prices for May 2026, raising rates by up to 28 percent for consumers across the country.
The official notification by OGRA has announced an increase in LNG prices for both Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and Sui Southern Gas Company systems.
The revised rates make LNG more costly by $3.51 per MMBTU on the Sui Southern system and up $3.43 per MMBTU on the Sui Northern system.
The new LNG price for the Sui Northern system has been set at $16.98 per MMBTU for May, OGRA said. In the interim, the new LNG price for the Sui Southern system has been pegged at $16.04 per MMBTU.
The new LNG price raises should affect LNG consumers, commercial users and industries using gas supplies in the country. The increase in the price of LNG is expected to put additional strain on inflation and on the cost of production for some industries, according to the experts.
LNG imports are sourced to satisfy the country’s increasing energy needs particularly in the time of high energy consumption. Local LNG prices tend to be influenced by changes in global energy market and international import prices.
The new OGRA notification comes at a time when consumers are already facing rising electricity and fuel costs, raising concerns about the overall cost of living in the country.
