The Punjab government has taken a significant step forward by approving the Wheat Procurement Policy for 2024-25. This policy sets the minimum support price for wheat at Rs 3,900 per 40 kilogram for the fiscal year 2023-2024, ensuring stability in the agricultural sector.
In a meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the provincial cabinet underscored its commitment to safeguarding the interests of small farmers. A landmark initiative announced, offering Rs 1.5 lakh interest-free loans to small farmers for purchasing essential farming inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides.
In a bid to expedite justice, the cabinet approved the establishment of Special Speedy Trial Courts in Punjab. These courts aim to swiftly resolve criminal cases related to rape, child abuse, domestic violence, electricity theft, and more.
The Advocate General Punjab briefed the cabinet on a proposed amendment in the defamation law, aiming to complete the degree within 90 days and the trial within 180 days. To avoid delays, defamation notices will disseminated through various channels, including major newspapers, social media, courier services, and registered posts.
The cabinet also approved the formation of the Cabinet Standing Committee on Legal Affairs and amendments to the Alternate Dispute Reservation Act, 2019. In a significant move, the Chairman of the Drug Court Gujranwala removed due to complaints of misconduct.
