Rain in Karachi: Residents Brace for More Wet Misery

Karachi, Pakistan – The port city is set to experience another bout of rain today, according to the latest forecast from the Met Office. This announcement follows a night of heavy rainfall that resulted in flooded roads, raising apprehensions about Karachi’s ability to handle such weather events.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has released a statement anticipating cloudy weather throughout the day, with the morning temperature recorded at 19.9 degrees Celsius, contributing to a cool and damp atmosphere.

Data from the Met Office reveals varying amounts of rainfall across different areas. Korangi Area received the highest recorded rainfall at 77mm, followed by PAF Faisal Base with 75mm, and other affected areas include Malir (64mm), Surjani Town (63.8mm), Keamari (55mm), Quaidabad (52mm), and the old airport area (51mm). Additional areas experiencing significant rainfall include Gulshan-i-Hadeed, PAF Masroor Base, Jinnah Terminal, Saadi Town, North Karachi, University Road, Gulshan-i-Maymar, and Nazimabad.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab took to social media platform X in the early morning to highlight persisting challenges in specific areas such as the old city, secretariat area, Tower, and MA Jinnah Road, which continue to face waterlogging despite ongoing efforts.

Efforts have been initiated by the government to mobilize machinery for clearing disposal areas, particularly in Hijrat Colony. However, Mayor Wahab acknowledged that additional work is required to address the situation in the morning. As the city copes with the aftermath of the previous night’s rain, concerns persist about the effectiveness of drainage systems and the overall resilience of Karachi in the face of unpredictable weather patterns. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts to enhance the city’s preparedness for future weather challenges.
