FIFA President Coming to Pakistan: Gianni Infantino Vows Major Football Boost for The Country

FIFA President Gianni Infantino will visit Pakistan “soon” to mark a new era for the country’s football. Speaking at the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, Infantino confirmed he is fulfilling a personal promise made to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This historic trip follows a massive governance overhaul within the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF).

The FIFA President’s visit to Pakistan is an indication of an administrative exile that has lasted a long time. In early 2025, FIFA suspended the PFF, but the federation changed its constitution, and the suspension was lifted. Infantino commended the ongoing leadership of PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani, citing their progress as being excellent work.

“We need to bring Pakistan to the top of Asia,” Infantino stated in Davos. “It is a great football country, and we are working to make that happen.”

This is not just a mere visit, it underscores key current developments. The visit of FIFA President is in line with some major initiatives:

• FIFA Series 2026: The Women National Team is also a part of a competitive team involving Ivory Coast, Mauritania and Turks and Caicos Islands.
• Grassroots Expansion: Pakistan is collaborating with Football for Schools, which has seen close to 165,000 footballs and special coaching to Pakistani students.
• Infrastructure: To close the gap in facilities, the PFF is now constructing mini-pitches in cities like Lahore and Islamabad under the name of FIFA Arena.
