KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s office was completely gutted after a fire erupted at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) head office on Tuesday.
Officials from the fire department said the flames originated in a kitchen located next to the mayor’s office within the KMC building. Firefighting teams were dispatched promptly to contain the situation before it could spread further across the premises.
By the time crews finished their operation, the fire department confirmed that the blaze had been fully put out. “The fire has been brought under control,” the department stated, adding that the flames no longer posed a threat to the rest of the building.
The fire comes a day after a major blaze broke out at a clothes factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone. The fire caused extensive damage to the factory, with rescue officials later declaring the affected building dangerous.
Authorities are expected to determine the cause of the KMC fire following an assessment of the damage and investigation into the incident.
