A significant development has taken place in the high-profile murder case of 17-year-old TikToker Sana Yousaf, as a local court in Islamabad has sentenced the main accused, Umar Hayat, to death after finding him guilty.
The judge Muhammad Azhar Majoka of the local court handed down the verdict after reserving it, according to the details. The court also imposed extra punishment and ordered the convict to serve 10 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 200,000.
In the course of the proceeding, the court noted that the prosecution was able to establish the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt. According to the judgment, enough evidence has been presented to prove that Umar Hayat did play a role in the murder.
Earlier during the trial, the accused had reportedly retracted his confessional statement in which he had admitted to the crime. After weighing the evidence and testimonies, however, the court held a verdict of death by execution.
Sana Yousaf’s death had sparked public outrage over social media and elsewhere because of her youth and growing popularity as a content creator on TikTok. This case was kept under judicial review for several months until it ended.
