Rahul Gandhi Detained During Protest against Election Commission in India

Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was detained during a protest against the Election Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday. He was later released, along with Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Opposition parties held the protest over changes to voter lists and demanded action from the Election Commission. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi joined other opposition leaders in a march from Parliament toward the Election Commission headquarters.

Police blocked roads leading to the Election Commission office with barricades as protesters approached the area.

Rahul Gandhi climbed over the barricades during the protest. Police then detained him and Priyanka Gandhi as they moved to stop the protesters from proceeding toward the Election Commission headquarters.

Both opposition leaders were released after a short period.

The protesters have been demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and raising concerns over changes to electoral rolls. The opposition has called for greater transparency in the preparation and revision of voter lists.
