Singapore Announces PKR 1.5 Crore Financial Assistance Per Child To Curb Declining Birth Rates

Singapore has rolled out a comprehensive financial aid package offering families up to S$70,000 per child from birth to age 17. This package aims to tackle record-low birth rates and encourage young couples to start families

Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced that families will receive nearly S$70,000 (approximately 15 million Pakistani rupees) in for child support across various life stages.

The PM says that families who form Singapore’s next generation will dictate the country’s future. This is why the government wants to reduce their financial and practical difficulties.

First Year From Birth

• A S10,000 cash baby grant on child birth.
• A separate S5,000 assistance for medical and educational needs.

From Age 1 to 16

• Families will receive S$2,000 in cash credits every year to help cover ongoing education and upbringing expenses.

Preschool and Leave Support

• The government lowered monthly fees for state-subsidized preschools to S$150.
• Parents will also be provided with additional leaves to better care for their children.

Demographic Challenges

Singapore’s total fertility rate hit a historic low of 0.87. Generally a 2.1 rate is necessary to maintain long-term population stability.

This sharp decline threatens future workforce shortages and a rapidly aging society.
This year Singapore’s 65+ aged people will make about 21% of the population, according to the United Nations.
