BYD to Begin Local Car Production in Pakistan Next Month

BYD will start building cars in Pakistan next month. The Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid will be the first model made at its new local plant. Hub Power Company (HUBCO) shared this update at an analyst briefing, and Arif Habib Limited reported the details.

Sealion 6 Will Be the First Car Made Locally

HUBCO says local CKD (kit-based) production will begin in December. The Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid will lead this rollout. The car was already shown to the public at PAPS 2026 earlier this year.

The new plant sits near Karachi. At first, it can build about 25,000 cars a year on double shifts. Later, this can grow to around 50,000 cars a year. HUBCO had earlier said production would start before the end of 2026. December is now the confirmed month.

BYD Has Sold Over 10,000 Cars in Pakistan So Far

HUBCO also shared sales numbers. BYD has now sold more than 10,000 cars in Pakistan. Its electric vehicle business made a profit of about Rs1.5 billion last quarter. HUBCO’s own share of that profit was around Rs780 million.

Until now, almost all BYD cars sold here came fully built from abroad (CBU). Local production is a big change for the brand. HUBCO has set a goal of up to 80% local parts in the long run.

The Sealion 6 is just the start. HUBCO is also looking at bigger, higher-volume cars for Pakistan. The report names the Denza B8 and B5 as other models expected around the end of 2026.

Both the Sealion 6 and the Denza B8 were already shown at PAPS 2026, so buyers in Pakistan have seen them in person. Local production does not mean instant low prices. HUBCO has said the plant will depend heavily on imported parts at first. Local content will grow step by step over time.

So the real price drop, if it comes, will likely take time. For now, the key update is this: BYD’s local production clock starts ticking in December 2026, with the Sealion 6 as the first car off the line.
