Punjab Bans Summer Camps in Public and Private Schools from July 1 Amid Heatwave

The Punjab Education Department has officially banned summer camps in all public and private schools from July 1, 2026, citing the ongoing extreme heatwave and growing health concerns for students, teachers, and school staff.

According to an official notification, no school will be allowed to organize summer camps after June 30. The department stated that the previous permission to hold summer camps was valid until 30 June and that there has been no extension.

Punjab Education Department Issues Strict Warning

The Punjab Education Department warned that strict action will be taken against schools violating the ban. Any school or other educational institution implementing a summer camp program after July 1 will be subject to severe legal and administrative penalties.

The penalties may include:

  • Heavy fines
  • Show-cause notices
  • Cancellation of the school’s license in cases of repeated or serious violations

The move is being made to keep students safe from the hazards of extended exposure to extreme heat during the current heat wave, officials said.

Monitoring Teams to Inspect Schools

Punjab Education Department has instructed all District Education Authorities to immediately inform the schools about the latest instructions to maintain full compliance.

The department has also established special monitoring teams to initiate inspections in all over Punjab from 1st July. The department’s regulations provide for immediate action against schools that are found in violation of the ban.

Heatwave Behind the Decision

According to the education authorities, the ban had been implemented because of the extreme heat wave in Punjab, which has certainly raised the risk of heat-related diseases.

Educational programs can cause children to be at risk for heat exhaustion and heatstroke if they are held during the extreme weather, officials said. The department stated its top priority is the health and safety of students, teachers and school staff.

Punjab Education Department had urged all schools to strictly adhere to instructions and refrain from arranging any summer trips until further notice.
