The Sindh government has initiated strict action against private schools charging Class 10 (matric) students fees for the period of April to July, declaring the practice unlawful and in violation of official policy.
The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions Sindh has issued a circular highlighting complaints against over charging of students beyond the approved academic fee structure by Additional Registrar Professor Rafia Mallah.
A few private schools have been arguing that their academic year starts in August 2025 and thus they have the right of charging fees till July 2026, the circular said. However, the provincial authority rejected this stance outright.
The officials explained that such institutions are definitely going against the approved decision of the Steering Committee that stipulates on the timelines of the fees to be collected and that beyond the time allowed, no school should be in a position to demand payment.
The directive also stressed that if any school has already taken fees from matric students from April to July it should immediately pay the fees back to the parents without delay.
The government warned that there will be hard consequences if schools do not obey the order, saying it will take legal and punitive measures against school leaders found to be uncooperative. Any breaches of the policy will not be tolerated, authorities have said.
The move is being seen as part of the Sindh government’s broader effort to regulate private educational institutions and ensure financial transparency and fairness for students and parents across the province.
