PlayStation Fans Are Hyped as New God of War Launch Date Finally Drops

Santa Monica Studio officially confirmed the God of War: Laufey launch date on PlayStation 5, along with news of a future Kratos sequel.

Santa Monica Studio revealed the official release date for God of War: Laufey during San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive arrives in stores on February 16, 2027.

The game shifts focus to Faye, also known as Laufey the Just. She is the late wife of Kratos and the mother of Atreus. This release marks the first time in the franchise’s history that Kratos does not serve as the primary main character.

Storyline Details and Gameplay Setting

The storyline opens with Kratos and Atreus burning Faye’s body. This opening mirrors the memorable beginning of the 2018 God of War game.

Faye awakens in a mysterious afterlife plane called the “Everywhen.”

The Mission

She battles fallen gods from different mythologies to protect her family’s future.

The Vision

Faye witnesses fragments of major events from God of War: Ragnarök as she travels through the realm.

Next Kratos Game Confirmed

Creative director Cory Barlog addressed the audience during the SDCC panel. He confirmed that a new Kratos-led God of War game is currently in development.

Barlog explained that God of War: Laufey acts as a direct bridge to the next main game. The ending of Faye’s journey will connect directly to Kratos’s next storyline. Kratos actor Christopher Judge also returned to express how Faye inspires Kratos toward hope and forgiveness.
