Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Expands Into 2D Animation with Anime-Inspired Series

The creators of India’s longest-running television comedy, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, have unveiled a brand-new 2D family animated series featuring an anime-inspired design to take the beloved franchise to global audiences.

The entertainment industry and fans received a major surprise when the first look of an upcoming 2D family animated series based on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah was officially showcased.

Neela Mediatech, the gaming and animation arm of Neela Film Productions, presented the project during the Animation & More (AM) Summit 2026 held in Mumbai

Attendees at the summit were shown a sneak-peek video that highlighted the project’s fresh visual approach. Unlike previous animated sequels targeted primarily at children, this new production is designed for the entire family.

It adopts a distinct anime inspired visual style while staying true to the core humor and social messaging that made the original live-action television show a household name.

Building a Global Entertainment Universe

The flagship live-action television series has achieved a historic milestone. It has run for 18 years and completed over 4,800 episodes to become world’s longest-running comedy series.

Building upon this massive success, creator and producer Asit Kumarr Modi is launching a broader vision to expand the intellectual property into a massive global entertainment universe.

The franchise already maintains a strong digital footprint with a 3D animated series for pre-teens running successfully on YouTube, alongside Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Rhymes which reaches younger children in 12 Indian languages.

By introducing a 2D family format, Neela Mediatech aims to cross generational and international boundaries through advanced gaming, multilingual content, and strategic global collaborations.
