Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meets Today to Sight Rabi-ul-Awwal Moon

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets in Islamabad today to sight the Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH crescent, though SUPARCO expects the month to begin on August 15.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is holding a key session today to sight the crescent for the holy month of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH. Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad is leading the main meeting in Islamabad.

Zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees are simultaneously meeting in major cities across the country. Officials from SUPARCO, the Meteorological Department, and the Ministry of Science and Technology are attending to provide technical data. The central committee will collect witness testimonies nationwide before making the final announcement.

Scientific Forecasts and Expected Dates

A spokesperson for SUPARCO stated that the new crescent is unlikely to be visible on the evening of August 13. Astronomical parameters indicate the moon will likely be sighted on August 14 instead.

Based on these scientific calculations

  • 1st Rabi-ul-Awwal: Expected to fall on Saturday, August 15.
  • 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal (Eid Milad-un-Nabi): Expected to fall on Wednesday, August 26.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee holds the sole authority to confirm the official start of the Islamic month.
