The Muharram 2026 moon sighting in Pakistan has become a key topic as the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council Pakistan released its latest prediction regarding the Muharram-ul-Haram crescent 1448 Hijri.
According to the council, the new moon for Muharram 2026 will be born on 15 June 2026 at 7:54 AM (PST). However, experts say that despite the birth of the moon, the chances of Muharram crescent visibility in Pakistan on the same evening remain extremely low.
Low Chances of Muharram Crescent Visibility 2026
On 15 June 2026, the moon age will be less than 12 hours, whereas scientific standard of seeing the moon in Pakistan usually demands it to be at least 18 hours old, the council said.
For this reason, it is highly improbable to see the moon of Muharram 2026 in Pakistan in clear skies.
Sunset and Moonset Timing in Pakistan
Astronomical data shared by the council shows that the time gap between sunset and moonset will also be limited:
- Karachi: 37 minutes
- Peshawar: 42 minutes
However, the actual visibility condition is still unknown so the start date of Islamic month of Muharram 2026 for Pakistan is still not confirmed.
Experts also stated that the crescent is too young to be seen through the naked eye, binoculars or telescopes.
Expected Start of Muharram 1448 Hijri
According to predictions, after the completion of 30 days of Zilhaj 1447 Hijri, the first day of Muharram 1448 Hijri in Pakistan is likely to fall on 17 June 2026 (Wednesday).
However, the final decision on the Islamic new year 2026 Pakistan moon sighting will be announced by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Pakistan after official testimony.
