Apple will replace a number of iPhone 18 Pro Max devices that have lost cellular service on AT&T’s network. The issue can prevent affected phones from making calls, sending texts or using mobile data, including calls to 911.
Apple confirmed that the problem affects a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T. The company said it has released iOS 27.0.1 and an AT&T carrier settings update to help prevent the issue from affecting more devices.
However, the updates cannot restore cellular service on devices that have already developed the problem.
Apple has advised affected customers to contact Apple Support or AT&T, or visit an Apple or AT&T store, for a replacement.
Issue Appears Limited to AT&T
The problem has so far been reported only on the iPhone 18 Pro Max using AT&T’s network. Apple said it has not identified the same issue on other iPhone models or other carriers.
AT&T has also advised affected customers to update their phones. Some users, however, reported that installing iOS 27.0.1 did not restore their cellular service.
Cause Has Not Been Confirmed
Apple and AT&T have not disclosed the underlying cause of the problem. The issue has raised questions about a possible hardware failure because affected devices require replacement after losing service.
US versions of the iPhone 18 Pro Max use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X80 modem, while the iPhone 18 Pro uses Apple’s C2 modem. The modem difference has been noted as a possible factor, but Apple has not confirmed a connection between the hardware and the AT&T issue.
Apple is encouraging iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T who have not experienced the problem to install iOS 27.0.1 and the latest carrier settings update to reduce the risk of future service loss.
