Babusar Top Reopens After 7 Months, Murree Tightens Eid 2026 Security for Tourists

Babusar Top road reopening and Murree Eid security plan 2026 signal a major boost for tourism and travel safety in northern Pakistan.

Tourism activity in northern Pakistan has received a strong push as the scenic Babusar Top route has officially reopened for traffic after a seven-month seasonal closure, while authorities in Murree have simultaneously announced strict security and traffic management measures ahead of Eid al-Adha 2026.

Babusar Top Road Reopens for the Season

The main glaciers that used to obstruct the highway have been evacuated so far, opening the vital link between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, the District Administration of Mansehra said.

The Babusar Top route is also expected to be a significant boost for the tourism and transport sector as it will provide an alternative route for tourists to reach Gilgit-Baltistan with a shorter and scenic journey.

Babusar Top is closed every season from November to May, due to heavy snowfall and extreme weather conditions. The road is now open and travel and tourism operators are hoping for a slow return in visitor numbers to the northern tourist areas.

Tourism stakeholders hope the reopening will relieve pressure on other routes and help revitalise the regional economy, with a particular focus on local businesses, hotels and transport.

Murree Eid 2026 Security Plan Announced

Meanwhile, the Murree Police have introduced a comprehensive security and traffic management plan for Eid al-Adha 2026 to handle a massive expected influx of tourists.

District Police Officer Dr Muhammad Raza Tanveer confirmed that:

  • Only families will be allowed entry to Mall Road and key tourist areas during peak Eid days
  • Section 144 will remain in force until 31 May 2026
  • Aerial firing and display of weapons will be strictly banned
  • One-wheeling and skating violations will result in immediate arrests

Authorities emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for violations to ensure public safety during the holiday period.

Over 700 Police Personnel to Be Deployed

More than 700 police officials will be deployed across Murree to manage traffic flow, crowd control, and emergency response during Eid holidays.

Last year, around 70,000 vehicles entered Murree on the third day of Eid, and officials expect even higher traffic this year.

To improve safety and communication, police have also launched the “Safe Tourism Murree” mobile application, which provides:

  • Live traffic updates
  • Emergency assistance
  • Direct contact with senior police officials via a “Text to DPO” feature

Travel Advisory for Tourists

Murree police have advised tourists to:

  • Avoid peak travel hours on Eid days 2 and 3
  • Ensure vehicle fitness before travel
  • Check brakes and tyres before mountain driving
  • Follow traffic instructions strictly

Officials reiterated that the goal is to ensure a safe, family-friendly, and internationally standard tourism environment during Eid al-Adha 2026.
