Domestic LNG Connections in Pakistan Likely to Resume in September

The Domestic LNG Connections in Pakistan could resume as early as September, as the government is expected to lift the temporary ban imposed earlier this year. The move depends on improved LNG supply following the expected end of Qatar’s force majeure on LNG exports.

Qatar has been under a force majeure for LNG until August, according to sources in the Petroleum Division, which has reduced the availability of imported LNG. Upon expiration of the restriction, imports of LNG are anticipated to be more stable and the authorities could consider re-establishing new domestic LNG connections.

Official sources also indicated that demand for LNG is expected to drop in the power sector in Pakistan during September. This decrease in consumption by industries and power plants will allow more gas supply for domestic use, and will make the approval of fresh LNG connections in households easier.

The Petroleum Division has clarified that there is no final decision yet. Authorities will be looking at an overall LNG supply position and at the domestic demand as a whole before officially lifting the ban.

In May 2026, the suspension of new domestic LNG was introduced because of the scarcity of LNG supply due to interruption of imports. Thousands of people have been waiting for the government to restart the issue of new residential connections since then.

In September, relieved consumers who have been waiting for new gas connections for several months will get relief with the improved supply of LNG.
