KARACHI: Astronomers have predicted that Eid-ul-Adha in Pakistan is likely to be observed on Wednesday, May 27; however, the final decision will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
According to experts, the new moon will be born on the night between May 16 and 17 at 1:15 AM. By the evening of May 17, the age of the moon will exceed 18 hours, which is considered suitable for sighting. If the weather remains clear, there is a strong chance of sighting the crescent of Zilhaj, which would make May 18 the first day of Zilhaj and Eid-ul-Adha fall on May 27.
Experts further stated that on May 17, the time difference between sunset and moonset will be around 55 minutes in Karachi and 63 minutes in Peshawar, which increases the chances of moon sighting.
Meanwhile, the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council has also indicated in its scientific report that there is a strong possibility of Eid-ul-Adha being observed on May 27. According to the report, if the weather remains clear, the crescent will be visible to the naked eye in most parts of Pakistan.
Experts also suggested that there is a possibility of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia observing Eid al-Adha on the same day this year.
