Fake Notification of Office and School Closure in Islamabad, Rawalpindi Clarified

The Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, has declared the social media post circulating that all government and private offices, as well as educational institutions, in and around the areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be closed beginning April 20, has turned out to be FALSE.

In a post via X (formerly Twitter), the Deputy Commissioner outlined that there is NO decision made at this time to close any educational institutions in Islamabad on Monday, April 20. The Deputy Commissioner urged residents not to pass on unverified and/or misleading information, but rather to use trusted sources for accurate information.

The security situation in Islamabad has been heightened, with approximately 18000 security personnel being deployed, and all entry into the Red Zone has been restricted, as well as all public and commercial vehicles have been suspended from operating until further notice; alternative routes for traffic have been identified.

Several other measures have also been taken ahead of a possible second round of talks in Islamabad.

Islamabad’s Red Zone was closed for traffic as the capital braced to welcome foreign delegations, police said on Sunday, with alternate traffic plans issued to facilitate citizens.

Public and heavy transport are also suspended in Islamabad until further notice.

The Rawalpindi district administration also suspended all public and goods transport from Sunday noon till the next directives.
