Government Announces Digital Pension System for Retired Employees

Islamabad: A major step has been taken to make it easier for retired government employees to receive their pensions. The e-Pension Portal aims to digitize the traditional and lengthy pension process, helping elderly pensioners avoid the difficulty of repeatedly visiting government offices.

The government and the Accountant General Pakistan Revenues (AGPR) are working to digitize the pension system to make the processing of applications faster and more transparent. Under the new system, several important pension-related procedures can be completed and monitored online.

Retired employees will be able to check the current status of their pension cases from home. They will also be able to see which stage their application has reached and track the progress of the relevant file.

Under the new system, pension payments can be transferred directly to the pensioner’s commercial bank account instead of being restricted to a specific National Bank branch.

The introduction of a biometric verification system for pensioners’ life verification has also been emphasized. Under this system, pensioners will be able to verify their identity every six months through a nearby bank branch or an ATM equipped with biometric facilities.
