The federal capital Islamabad has officially revised market operating hours under a new energy conservation initiative, following similar measures already implemented in Punjab.
Islamabad markets and shopping malls will now close at 8.00 PM from now, according to an official notification. The move follows a series of measures the government is taking to lower energy usage and control electricity demand during peak periods.
Key Changes in Islamabad Market Timings
Under the new schedule:
- Markets & Shopping Malls: Will close at 8:00 PM
- Restaurants, Food Points, Bakeries, Tandoors & Grocery Stores: Allowed to remain open until 10:00 PM
- Petrol Pumps & CNG Stations: Will continue operating on regular schedules without restrictions
- Medical Stores & Hospitals: Fully exempted from the new timing restrictions
- Wedding Halls & Marquees: Must also shut down by 10:00 PM
Authorities have directed strict implementation of the new timings to ensure compliance with the energy-saving policy.
Punjab Also Reimposes Business Timing Restrictions
The province of Punjab had also earlier reintroduced market timing rules after the Eid holidays, which were partially lifted. The exemption was only in effect until the 1st of June.
Punjab markets and restaurants should resume their business hours as per the energy conservation plan from June 2 onwards.
Government’s Energy Conservation Strategy
The program is part of a national campaign to lower the electricity load, fuel consumption and energy efficiency in the country. Early closures of commercial markets could have a significant impact in reducing peak demand.
