Jamaat-e-Islami Announces Nationwide Protest Against Petrol Prices on August 7

Jamaat-e-Islami petrol protest is set to take place across Pakistan on August 7, as the party demands a reduction in fuel prices and the immediate abolition of the petroleum levy.

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman announced the nationwide protest through a post on X, urging the government to lower petrol prices and end what he described as an unfair tax on the public. He said the petroleum levy has become a heavy financial burden for millions of Pakistanis already struggling with rising inflation.

The party has also demanded that the government abolish the current daily fuel price adjustment system and fix the petrol price at Rs225 per litre. According to Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the August 7 protest will become a major public movement against increasing fuel costs.

He called on students, young people, motorcycle riders, delivery workers, courier staff, labourers, farmers, traders, and citizens from all walks of life to join the protest with their motorcycles and vehicles. He said peaceful political resistance is the only way to protect the rights of the people and pressure the government to accept public demands.

Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi also criticised the continuous increase in petroleum prices, saying the rising fuel costs are affecting every sector of society, including transporters, businesses, industries, and ordinary households. The party warned that higher fuel prices are driving inflation and increasing the cost of essential goods across the country.

The Karachi chapter further claimed that several trader associations, industrial organisations, and the Petroleum Pump Owners Association have also opposed the government’s fuel pricing policy. Despite these objections, it said the government continues to increase the financial burden on citizens through regular fuel price revisions.

The Jamaat-e-Islami petrol protest is expected to draw participants from across Pakistan, with demonstrations and sit-ins planned in major cities on August 7. The party says it will continue its campaign until the government reduces petrol prices and removes the petroleum levy.
