Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) embarks on a monumental digital upgrade of Karachi and Lahore airports. Another new funding of Rs 5 billion is focused on modern air traffic control mechanisms, better flight management capabilities and AI-based surveillance solutions to achieve global safety standards of 2026 that would ensure more connectivity between regions and flight delays are minimized during peak transit.
The government has recently approved a large-scale project of replacement of the old equipment in our busiest hubs of almost Rs 5 billion. The Karachi (Jinnah International Airport) and Lahore (Allama Iqbal International Airport) are in the midst of this upgrade. The PC-1 was approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) which opened the way towards state of art air traffic control systems. This will serve as a requisite measure to manage the increasing flight density in the Karachi and Lahore Flight Information Regions (FIRs).
An international tender will be executed soon by the PAA to import world-class flight management systems. The new installations provide round-the-clock directions and accuracy. This is a relief to anyone taking flights in and out of Pakistan because of reduced delays and increased border security measures. These intelligent CNS/ATM integrations will be accessible in a new dedicated ATC tower located in Karachi and which was designed by the top-end international architects.
This streamlines Pakistan to ICAO standards 2026. The PAA is able to achieve this by automation of manual processes and real-time monitoring that keeps our airspace a competitive flight route among global airlines. Be it the on-going Hajj operations or the daily international transit, our aviation backbone is now at last getting the urgent 21 st -century pulse that it warrants.
