Karachi police have revealed that a recent suicide attack in the Landhi area specifically targeted five Japanese nationals who were on their way to the Export Processing Zone in Landhi. The attack took place near Murtaza Chorangi while the Japanese nationals were traveling in a bulletproof Hiace van, ensuring their safety despite the assailants’ attempts.
The incident occurred as the Japanese nationals were commuting from their residence in Zamzama, Clifton, to their workplace. They were accompanied by private security guards, one of whom sustained injuries in the attack. Fortunately, all five Japanese citizens remained unharmed.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) shared that the attackers, riding motorcycles, targeted the van carrying the Japanese nationals. However, due to the vehicle’s armor, the occupants were shielded from harm. Additionally, the police took swift action, neutralizing two terrorists involved in the attack.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with the Sindh Chief Minister directing the Inspector General to provide a detailed report. This report will encompass the identities of the terrorists, their affiliations, any accomplices involved, and specifics regarding the explosives used during the assault.
As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, highlighting the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of all residents and foreign nationals in Karachi.
