KARACHI: The Dairy and Cattle Farmers Association has formally requested the Commissioner Karachi to revise the official milk price in Karachi, demanding an increase of Rs 100 per litre.
According to the association, rising expenses, including animal feed, electricity, petrol, transportation, and overall business operating costs, have made it increasingly difficult for dairy farmers to continue selling milk at the current government-fixed rates.
Association office bearer Shakir Gujjar said the dairy sector is facing a severe financial crisis. He added that farmers cannot continue their operations under the existing price structure.
Dairy farmers claimed that the prices of fodder and milk-related inputs have increased by 75%. They said they will soon announce a plan of action after internal consultation.
Mubashir Qadeer Abbasi also warned that milk supply in Karachi could be affected because dairy farmers are facing a shortage of working capital.
The association warned that without a price revision, many farmers and suppliers may struggle to sustain their operations.
