MWM Protest Update: Sit-Ins Disrupt Karachi Traffic at Six Locations – January 1, 2025

  1. Numaish Chowrangi – Completely closed for traffic.
  2. Abu al-Hasan Isfahani Road and Abbas Town – Both roads leading to these areas are blocked.
  3. Kamran Chowrangi to Mosmiyat Road – Fully closed.
  4. Water Pump to Incholi Road – Blocked by protesters, further hindering traffic flow.

Despite these disruptions, some routes remain open, including:

  • Sohrab Goth to Water Pump.
  • Banaras to Orangi Town.

Authorities have advised commuters to remain patient and use alternative routes to avoid delays.

Violent Clashes at Numaish Chowrangi

On Tuesday, Numaish Chowrangi witnessed violent clashes between protesters and the police. Law enforcement used shelling to disperse demonstrators, leading to retaliatory stone-pelting. The chaos escalated, resulting in:

  • Several motorcycles being set on fire.
  • Injuries to multiple police officers, including SSP Keamari Faizan Ali and Special Security Unit (SSU) Commandos.

Injured personnel were transported to the Civil Hospital for treatment, rescue sources confirmed.

Detentions and Public Safety

Authorities have detained several individuals involved in the protests. The law enforcement agencies continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalations.
