Net Metering Gets Cheaper as NEPRA Waives Fees up to 25 kW

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has waived the fee on up to 25 KW net metering applications at the request of the Power Division.
An official announcement was made on April 28, 2026, and stated that there would be no application fees for facilities with a capacity of up to 25 kilowatts, based on Schedule IV and Regulation 4(2)(b) of the NEPRA (Prosumers) Regulations 2026. However, those projects exceeding 25 kilowatts will be charged a one-time application fee of Rs 1,000 for each kilowatt of capacity. This fee will be made payable directly to NEPRA.
The Notification provides an outline of the criteria that must be met by applicants to obtain regulatory approval to install and operate distributed generation systems. These systems are an integral part of the evolving Prosumer framework in Pakistan.
It outlines the requirements for applicants seeking regulatory concurrence for the installation and operation of distributed generation systems, a key component of Pakistan’s evolving prosumer framework.
NEPRA also made it clear that this notification will apply retroactively to any date up to and including February 9, 2026.
Recently, with regard to these fee notifications, the Power Division wrote to NEPRA under the direction of the Minister of Power, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, to withdraw the fee of Rs 1000/KW for net metering applications.
