Pakistan Announces Smart Traffic Signals to Give Ambulances Green Lights Automatically

PUNJAB: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has decided to introduce a signal-free corridor system for Rescue 1122 ambulances and other emergency vehicles to help reduce response times during emergencies.

Under the plan, Rescue 1122 vehicle data will be linked with the Safe Cities network. Officials said traffic signals will automatically switch to green when an ambulance or emergency vehicle approaches an intersection, allowing it to move without delays.

Emergency response services in Pakistan are set to receive a major boost with the introduction of a smart traffic management system that will automatically give ambulances priority on the roads. Under the new initiative, traffic signals will detect approaching emergency vehicles and switch to green, allowing ambulances to pass through intersections without delays caused by congestion. The move is aimed at reducing travel time during critical emergencies, where every second can make a significant difference in saving lives.

The initiative reflects Pakistan’s increasing adoption of smart technologies in public infrastructure, with authorities emphasizing that modern traffic solutions can play a vital role in improving healthcare outcomes and strengthening emergency response capabilities across the country.
