Pakistan Heatwave Alert: Temperatures Set to Hit 50°C Until May 31

Pakistan is bracing for a severe heatwave as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of rising temperatures from May 25 to May 31 across multiple regions of the country.

The officials state that the temperatures may be 5 to 7°C above normal making extreme heat condition in Sindh, southern part of Punjab and parts of Balochistan.

Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Sibi, Turbat, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan are likely to be the worst hit with mercury reaching temperature of 47°C to 50°C.

Karachi, on the other hand, will not be as extreme, with temperatures ranging from 35°C to 38°C, though humidity may make it uncomfortable.

Some recent readings already indicate high conditions: Dadu recorded 49°C, Shaheed Benazirabad 48°C and Mohenjo Daro 48°C, while Jacobabad and surrounding areas hit 47°C.

Extreme heat could cause dehydration, heat stroke, and fatigue, particularly for children, elderly and outdoor workers, meteorologists say.

Authorities are urging citizens to avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, stay hydrated, and take precautionary measures as the heatwave is expected to persist through the end of May.
