The Government of Sindh has announced a new women empowerment initiative under which free pink electric scooters will be distributed among women in Hyderabad on May 28.
The minister for information Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon said the move came after Shahrah-e-Bhutto opened for general traffic and part of plans to enhance the province’s public accessibility and mobility infrastructure.
Women’s Mobility and Empowerment Focus
The pink electric scooter scheme has said to be a paradigm change initiative to empower women through providing them with safe and reliable mobility.
In addition, the distribution of electric scooters not just intended to solve mobility problems, but also to contribute to larger social change by enabling more women to engage in education, employment and everyday economic activities, officials said.
Expansion of Existing E-Scooter Programme
The Sindh government has already allocated approximately 1000 electric scooters in the past year through these kinds of initiatives. The programme has a positive social impact and now scaled up to extend to Hyderabad for a larger population of women, the minister added.
The expansion will help to further facilitate the efforts towards developing an inclusive transport system in urban Sindh, according to authorities.
