Punjab Kisan Card Scheme: Maryam Nawaz Announces Major Agricultural Support for Farmers

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said that the Kisan Card initiative is reshaping the financial landscape of agriculture in Punjab, helping farmers move away from traditional debt systems and toward financial independence and dignity.

She said that the government’s vision is for the farmers of Punjab to be prosperous, self-reliant and free from exploitation by middlemen and informal lenders in the long-term.

Over 832,000 Farmers Registered Under Kisan Card Scheme

The Chief Minister shared the official data according to which Kisan Cards have been issued to more than 832,000 farmers in Punjab for the first time.

This programme has helped farmers to access formal financial assistance on agricultural inputs, to help them conduct the production process more efficiently and transparently.

Billions in Agricultural Loans and Inputs Utilized

Maryam Nawaz announced that farmers have collectively utilised Rs. 2.54 billion in agricultural loans under the Kisan Card program.

Farmers bought agricultural inputs worth over Rs. 100 billion, which shows high involvement in the scheme and better access to formal credit channels.

Strong Loan Recovery and Financial Discipline Reported

The Chief Minister emphasized remarkable achievements in loan recovery, noting that:

  • Around 538,000 farmers are responsible for Rs. 67 billion in recoverable amounts
  • The government has achieved an 86% recovery rate
  • Farmers have successfully repaid Rs. 57 billion in installments on time

She commended the farmers’ practice of financial discipline and responsibility, describing it as “a remarkable example of trust and compliance.”

Rs. 90 Billion Support for Kharif Season Inputs

Maryam Nawaz also said that through Kisan Card system, agricultural assistance of Rs. 90 billion has been provided for Kharif crops.

In addition, approximately 3 lakh farmers have already been benefiting from Rs. 30 billion worth of agricultural inputs through the scheme.

The objective of this large scale financial support is to increase crop production, lower production costs and ensure food security in the province.

Government’s Vision: Modern and Self-Reliant Agriculture

The Punjab government believes that the Kisan Card scheme is part of the broader focus of modernization of agriculture, transparency of subsidy distribution, and removal of reliance on informal credit facilities.

Maryam Nawaz repeated that the main objective is to make farmers financially empowered, independent and self-sustaining so that they can make more significant contributions to the national economy.
