Skardu Airport Runway Partially Closed for Maintenance Until June 28

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has announced the partial closure of the main runway at Skardu Airport due to ongoing maintenance work, resulting in limited flight operations during daytime hours.

The airport authority has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) stating that runway 14L/32R will not be available between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM every day. The runway will be closed until June 28 while necessary repair and rehab work is being undertaken.

A spokesperson for the PAA said that repair and maintenance activities include seal coating of the runway, repair of cracks in the runway surface and repainting of the runway markings to ensure safe and enhanced aircraft operations in the future.

While the runway is temporarily shut down, officials have assured that it can be opened up for emergency use if needed, subject to an hour’s notice to air traffic control.

The runway closure is likely to affect the operating schedule of one of the country’s highest and picturesque airports, which is a vital link to the tourist spots in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Passengers traveling to and from Skardu have been advised to check with airlines for updated schedules, as flight timings may be adjusted during the maintenance period.
