A video showing interaction between Uzma Kardar, a newly elected member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Maryam Nawaz, the recently elected Chief Minister of Punjab, went viral on social media.
The video, captured in the Punjab Assembly, showed Maryam Nawaz seemingly ignoring Kardar’s attempt to greet her. This led to speculation and criticism of Maryam Nawaz’s behavior on social media.
However, Kardar herself clarified the situation in a video statement hours later. She explained that she had just finished breakfast, which included “halwa puri,” a Pakistani dish known to be oily. When Maryam Nawaz greeted her, Kardar instinctively reached out with an oily hand, which Maryam gently pushed away.
Kardar emphasized that the interaction was a simple misunderstanding and not a sign of any intentional rudeness.
