Government Launches New Award to Honor Pakistan’s $1.1B Freelance IT Workforce

Pakistan has officially launched its first-ever Top Freelancer Award to recognize remote digital workers after freelance export earnings crossed $1.1 billion.

The Government of Pakistan launched a national award scheme to honor top-performing digital freelancers. The decision celebrates a historic financial milestone achieved by the country’s remote workforce.

State Bank of Pakistan data shows that Pakistani freelancers generated over $1.1 billion in IT export during the 2025–26 fiscal year. This total reflects a massive 78 percent increase from the previous year. In June 2026 alone freelancers brought $164 million into the country.

Key Export Performance Figures

  • Freelancers brought in $1.06 billion through IT services during the first 11 months of the fiscal year.
  • Freelancers now generate 25 percent of Pakistan’s total IT export revenue.
  • Remote workers generated an additional $533 million through non IT digital services.
  • Average monthly earnings per freelancer rose from $12 in 2021 to over $53 in 2026.

Why This Record Matters

The new award recognizes software developers, graphic designers, digital marketers and content creators in the country. Official recognition gives digital careers more authority and motivates young professionals.

The government initiatives helped drive this financial growth. Authorities kept the tax rate at 0.25 percent for registered freelancers. Banks also simplified foreign payment transfers. It allows remote workers to deposit foreign currency directly into local accounts.
