The England head coach search has intensified, with Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson emerging as one of the leading candidates for the role. According to British media reports, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has shortlisted nine coaches as it looks to appoint a permanent successor following Brendan McCullum’s tenure.
The shortlist includes a number of high-profile candidates such as former England head coach Mike Hesson, Stephen Fleming, Justin Langer, Tom Moody and Kumar Sangakkara. Former Ireland and Hampshire coach Jonathan Trott and Marcus Trescothick are also in contention for the coveted role in the English camp.
Andy Flower is reportedly in contention for the position of England head coach again, as evidenced by his stint with the national team. Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson, however, is in the shortlist as his name has become synonymous with international cricket coaching.
The ECB has reportedly stepped up their efforts following England’s poor form recently. The squad has lost seven out of the last nine Tests, putting the pressure on to appoint a new leader to rejuvenate the team.
The British media is reporting that an interim England head coach will be in charge for the upcoming series against Pakistan, and the ECB is still talking to shortlisted candidates before making a final appointment.
The selection of England’s next head coach is likely to be one of the top cricket stories of the next few weeks as there are several experienced international coaches vying for the job.
