A striking and controversial statue depicting former U.S. President Donald Trump and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in a pose reminiscent of the iconic Titanic scene has appeared near the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
The 12-foot-tall installation is said to have been made by the anonymous guerrilla art group known as the Secret Handshake and it has already attracted crowds of locals, tourists and even media.
The response to the art piece has been divided. Visitors praised it as political satire, but some said it was bold, with social and political commentary, and others said it was not appropriate to be in such a large public area. The ensuing debate has rekindled debates on the issue of whether protest art and political commentary has a place in frontline public spaces.
The legality of the installation has not been verified yet, or the installation will continue to be exhibited.
