A Toyota Vigo was swept away by the fast-flowing Kunhar River in Naran, Mansehra district, after four friends attempted to drive the vehicle through the river while filming a video.
The group was attempting to take a video of the river while crossing in the Vigo when the vehicle was suddenly swept away by the strong current, police said. The car got stuck in flood water and was swept away.
Upon receiving the emergency call, teams responded immediately and managed to save all four young men’s lives. He said there were no casualties and all had been evacuated to safety.
The rescue was done in time, and the search for the Vigo in the Kunhar River is still on-going, DSP Sadaqat Khan said.
The event serves as a warning about what can go wrong when trying to do stunts for social media in tourist hotspots. Visitors have been warned by authorities repeatedly not to drive their cars on to rivers or streams as river levels and currents can fluctuate quickly, particularly in summer when glacial melt raises river flow.
The Kunhar river is one of the major attractions in Naran and attracts thousands of tourists every year. Officials are still urging people to take precautions and refrain from any unnecessary risk while near fast-flowing water to prevent more such incidents.
