A legal notice has been issued by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Muhammad Amir Khoso against the digital media platform “Raftar” over a controversial documentary published on YouTube.
The notice was issued to the owner of the Raftar, Farhan Malik, through Advocate Humayun Sheikh, who had objected to the documentary on “The Untold Story Of How PPP Destroyed Karachi.”
The complainant says the documentary is one-sided and defamatory, and unfairly associates Pakistan Peoples Party with issues of governance and development in Karachi.

Allegations of Defamatory and One-Sided Narrative
According to the legal notice, the content of the documentary is “false, misleading and defamatory” of the party, and is “reputational harm”.
Nevertheless, political documentary watchers observe that political documentaries still frequently provide critical examination of governance and public matters, which continue to be part of a wider media discussion.
Rs10 Billion Damages Demand
The notice seeks Rs10 billion in damages and charges that the PPP has suffered substantial damage to its reputation. It also demands that the document be removed from YouTube, Facebook and Instagram as soon as possible.
Public Apology and 14-Day Deadline
The notice also seeks an apology from Raftar for posting the content. The platform is given 14 days to respond and meet the legal demands.
The development has raised questions about the scope of the defamation laws in digital media, as well as the relationship between political criticism, documentary reporting and the law.
